Energy storage fire safety consulting (NFPA 855, 68, 69)

Code interpretation, gap analysis and remediation for energy storage systems entering North America and other markets: NFPA 855 compliance, NFPA 68/69 explosion protection design, hazard mitigation analysis and AHJ communication, with P.E. stamping through our partners.

Energy storage fire safety consulting (NFPA 855, 68, 69)

Typical engagement: interpretation → gap analysis → remediation

  1. Interpretation. Which codes apply where your system will be installed: NFPA 855, IFC, local fire codes, UL 9540 and UL 9540A requirements.
  2. Gap analysis. Compare the design and existing test data with those requirements. Identify missing tests, spacing that cannot be justified, and explosion control that does not meet NFPA 68 or 69.
  3. Remediation. Design changes, explosion vent and ventilation design, test planning — then the tests themselves on our sites.
  4. AHJ support. Help preparing the submission and answering questions from the authority, with P.E. stamping through our partners.

Design consulting

Siting and layout, maximum stored energy, spacing and separation, detection and suppression and their effectiveness, flammable gas ventilation and explosion control, storage of non-conforming batteries, failure-mode analysis and safety measures.

Deliverables

  • Standard interpretation and gap analysis report
  • NFPA 68 vent sizing and NFPA 69 ventilation analysis
  • Hazard mitigation analysis support
  • Documentation package for the AHJ; P.E.-stamped documents through Summit or Jensen Hughes

Frequently asked questions

Who stamps the documents?

North American Professional Engineer (P.E.) stamping is provided through our partners Summit and Jensen Hughes. We prepare the technical basis — test data, calculations and simulation — that they review.
