UN 38.3
UN38.3 means the Manual of Tests and Criteria prepared by the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Criteria) section 38.3 on lithium battery testing. UN38.3 is a battery safety performance test report, and a full set of safety performance tests for various types of batteries according to various domestic and foreign standards, to ensure product quality and safety for each battery manufacturer, and to improve export capacity in line with various standards.
The UN38.3 test is a mandatory test to ensure that lithium batteries can be safely transported by air, sea and land. The Civil Aviation Administration issued the 'Lithium Battery air transport Standards' to the air transport companies, which clearly requires that the lithium battery must pass the UN38.3 test by the CNAS accredited laboratory before air and sea transport, and the airlines must receive the lithium battery UN38.3 qualification report and transportation identification letter before receiving the lithium battery.
Before lithium battery transportation, It is necessary to pass T1 height simulation, T2 temperature test, T3 vibration test, T4 impact test, T5 external short circuit, T6 impact/squeeze test, T7 overcharge, T8 forced discharge test to ensure the safety of lithium battery transportation.
For air transport, if the lithium battery is not installed together with the equipment, it must also pass a 1.2m free drop test (cell less than 20wh, battery pack less than 100wh).
