Fire resistance: assemblies and doors

AS 1530.4

AS 1530.4 Methods for fire tests on building materials, components and structures — Part 4: Fire-resistance tests for elements of construction

AS 1530.4 is the fire resistance test method for building elements in Australia and New Zealand; walls, floors, doors and ceilings exported there are usually tested to it.

Within CNAS accreditation AS 1530.4:2014 is within our CNAS scope, excluding columns, ducts, service penetrations and control joints, fire dampers and air-transfer grilles in ducts, and critical service assemblies.

Elements covered

AS 1530.4 sets specimen mounting, exposure and criteria separately for each kind of element, including walls, floors and roofs, ceilings, doors and shutters, and glazed elements. Results are expressed as a fire resistance level (FRL): structural adequacy / integrity / insulation, each in minutes, for example –/60/60.

Our accredited scope

Walls, floors, ceilings and doors are within scope. Columns, ducts, service penetrations and control joints, fire dampers and air-transfer grilles, and critical service assemblies are not.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from ISO 834 or EN 1363?

The heating curve is broadly the same, but AS 1530.4 sets its own mounting and criteria for each kind of element (doors, ceilings, floors and so on), and results feed the Australian fire resistance level (FRL). Reports to other standards usually cannot be used in its place.
